ModMem by Unrem
Privacy policy
ModMem is designed so your recordings, notes, and optional place context can stay on your devices.
Effective: July 30, 2026
What ModMem processes
When you choose to record on Apple Watch or iPhone, ModMem processes audio, transcripts, anonymous speaker labels, titles, summaries, action items, topics, timestamps, markers, and notes that you create. If you separately allow location access, ModMem can also attach the recording's precise GPS start point. It does not continuously update location or build a movement route. The Apple Watch sends recording segments, markers, and any optional start point to its paired iPhone using Apple's Watch Connectivity framework.
In the current local-only beta, ModMem does not transmit this content to Unrem servers. Transcription, anonymous speaker clustering, and note generation run on the paired iPhone. Speaker labels such as “Speaker 1” distinguish voices within a recording; they do not identify a person. If fully on-device speech recognition is unavailable for a device or language, ModMem explains that the feature is unavailable instead of silently uploading the recording.
Data Unrem collects
The current local-only beta does not require an account, include advertising or third-party analytics, or collect recordings, transcripts, contacts, location, identifiers, or usage history on Unrem servers. Opt-in place context is stored locally with the recording it describes.
Apple may process TestFlight diagnostics or feedback that you choose to share under Apple's own terms and privacy policy. Unrem receives only the TestFlight information Apple makes available to developers.
The Places view uses Apple Maps. When you open it, Apple may process map requests, such as the region being viewed, to provide map tiles and related services under Apple's terms and privacy policy. Your saved recording points are not uploaded to Unrem servers.
Storage and security
Recordings, derived notes, and any opt-in place context are stored in the app containers on your Apple Watch and iPhone and receive the protections provided by the operating system, device passcode, and Apple platform data protection. Transfer between a paired Apple Watch and iPhone is handled by Apple system frameworks.
Completed recording segments are preserved until transfer is acknowledged or you delete them. After the iPhone acknowledges a completed Watch recording, ModMem removes the redundant location point from its Watch transfer record. This reduces the chance that an interruption loses an entire session without retaining place context there longer than transfer requires.
Your choices
You decide when recording starts and stops. ModMem displays a recording state while the microphone is active. Location is separately opt-in on iPhone and Apple Watch; denying it does not prevent recording, and enabling Watch capture requires an explicit choice on the Watch. Turning a device's location option off stops future capture there without deleting points already transferred. You can remove a point from one recording, delete all saved points, deny microphone, speech-recognition, or location access in system Settings, delete individual sessions, or remove the app and its local data from your devices. Point-deletion commands are queued for a paired Watch and take effect there when a disconnected Watch reconnects.
Because the local-only beta does not operate user accounts or store your recording content on Unrem servers, Unrem normally cannot retrieve or delete content held only on your devices.
Recording other people
Audio-recording and consent laws vary by jurisdiction. You are responsible for telling participants and obtaining any consent required before recording. ModMem is not intended for unlawful surveillance.
Future optional cloud features
ModMem will not enable cloud enhancement silently. Before a future cloud feature sends content off-device, it must identify the provider, the content being sent, the purpose, and the applicable retention controls, and it must ask for your affirmative choice. This policy and the App Store privacy disclosure will be updated before such a feature is distributed.
Website and contact
The waitlist form opens a draft in your own email app; this website does not store the entered address before you send it. Hosting infrastructure may process ordinary request data such as IP address, browser type, and request time for security and delivery.
